Kane County Drug Court

Addiction Art Show and Written Work Extravaganza

September 7, 2011

On September 7, the Juror Lounge at the Kane County Judicial Center (37W777 Route 38, St. Charles, Illinois) was converted into an art gallery and defendants used it to share personal stories through art works and the written word with the community.

In a Sun Times internet publication "The Courier-News" article Carrie Thomas, coordinator of Kane County's Drug Rehabilitation Court, makes several comments about how creative the defendants are and how interested the local people are in the art. The article "From addicts to artists" By Erika Wurst ewurst@stmedianetwork.com August 30, 2011 9:04PM, can be found here.

The Drug Court Program is more about rehabilitation than it is about punishment. Thomas said the defendants are met with a holistic approach to recovery rather than a punitive one.
